Oak Harbor WA ... — Flyers Restaurant and Brewery claimed a silver medal at the 2015 Great American Beer Festival (GABF) competition. Presented by the , GABF is the largest national beer competition that recognizes the most outstanding beers produced in the United States. The top three winners in the competition’s 92 beer categories were announced September 26 at the Great American Beer Festival awards ceremony held at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, Colorado.
Owner and Head Brewer Tony Savoy said “Assistant brewer Robert “Fergie” Ferguson should get the credit for this one. All I did was, write the recipe and mash in and he did the rest.” Savoy also added “Fergie stepped into a brewer’s role late last year has not missed a beat in the execution of our recipes. I am really proud of what he has done here at Flyers.”
Flyers Restaurant and Brewery was recognized in the Special Best Bitter beer-style category for its Spitfire Best Bitter, an English style Best Bitter that is copper in color with a balanced profile that features English malts and American hops. This is a specialty beer that is brewed just a couple of times a year “Looks like we need to make another batch now!” said Savoy. Flyers is a 7-barrel brewpub located in Oak Harbor Washington that specializes in American and English style ales.
The 2015 GABF competition winners were selected by an international panel of 242 expert judges from the record number of 6,647 entries, plus 91 Pro-Am entries, received from 1,552 U.S. breweries.
“American brewers continue to create innovative, flavorful high quality beers.
