Press Release

Seattle, April 29, 2015- On May 8th, 2015, Flying Bike Cooperative Brewery (FBCB) will release its fifth member-driven beer- Storm Cycle Cascadian Dark Ale- on tap at Counterbalance Brewing and available for distribution just in time for Seattle Beer Week! The food truck, Bread & Circuses, will provide beer-centric cuisine to accompany this winner of Flying Bike’s CDA competition. The recipe beat out 18 homebrew recipes voted on by over 200 members of Washington’s first co-operative brewery.
After hosting a soft opening at Counterbalance, FBCB was eager to join forces and upscale the CDA winning recipe in a 10 barrel, commercial system. The winning home brewer, Tony Ochsner, owner of Kenmore’s Micro Homebrew, is FBCB member #93 of 1084 current members ( has the most up-to-date figure). He and Counterbalance head brewer, Frank Lawrence, worked together throughout the planning and brewing process to create a dark yet refreshing beer, perfect for the season.
Tony said, “I have won some other awards for my homebrewed beers but I am most proud that my CDA was chosen by the members of FBCB to be an official recipe in their brewery. Working with Frank and Jeff at Counterbalance was an honor. These guys have something great going and it was exciting to be just a part of it.”
Through the power of numbers and sheer will, Flying Bike will open as an official brewery in June 2015. Despite finally having a location, FBCB will continue efforts to work with other breweries and local businesses throughout the area, offering soft openings to new businesses and beer-related educational opportunities to its members. In the meantime, Storm Cycle CDA will be on tap at Counterbalance Brewery and available for distribution around the Seattle area.
• FBCB will be the first cooperative brewery in WA State and 4th in the nation once they open in June 2015
• FBCB has acquired all 5 founding recipes through member driven home brew competitions. The Storm Cycle CDA’s recipe (by taste) and name were voted on by the membership.
