Chuckanut Brewery & Kitchen at 601 W Holly St, Bellingham, is excited to announce the tapping of the collaboration Rauch Dopplebock that was made with Hales Ales in Seattle. This full bodied German smoky lager was collaboratively created by Chuckanut head brewer Bryan Cardwell and old friend Chris Sheehan, Hales Ales head brewer. The tapping of the new Rauch Dopplebock is on in Chuckanut’s bar. Head Brewer Bryan Cardwell will be on hand to answer questions and talk about this special collaboration. Hales Ales will also be tapping the beer in their brewpub the same day.
The two brewers are old school buddies from Colorado who migrated to the Northwest after school and have stayed in touch. Chris, now at Hales Ales Seattle, recently met up with Cardwell and the two brewers discussed creating a collaborative beer. After putting their heads together over a pint they came up with the Rauch Dopplebock Lager. A beautiful deep amber colored beer with a smokiness due to the beechwood smoked malts. This collaboration has notes of chocolate, toffee, and malt. With just enough hops to balance out the sweetness this unusual lager is rich and enjoyable. Both head brewers have been working with two NW pioneers of the craft beer trade: Will Kemper (Chuckanut) and Mike Hale (Hales Ales). It’s fun to see the “passing of the torch” to these talented young brewers. We hope you enjoy it at both Chuckanut Brewery & Kitchen, Bellingham and Hales Ales, Seattle.
