Press Release

Portland, OR – Local brewery, Laurelwood Brewing Co., caught many craft beer fanatics off guard on Wednesday, April 1st with an unexpected release of their Megafauna Imperial IPA – a hoppy wonder that tends to hit tap lines and shelves once a year, and not stay on them very long.

Megafauna is a highly regarded beer in the Pacific Northwest and beyond. Its distinction magnified after winning the first ever National Imperial IPA (IIPA) Championship in 2013.

Laurelwood launched Megafauna earlier this year to coincide with the 2015 competition, but a different reason sparked this most recent release; the Craft Brewers Conference (CBC), which brings together beer industry professionals across the U.S., takes place April 14-17 in Portland.

"People from all over the country – who drink, sleep, breath craft beer – come to town for it," explains Shane Watterson, Laurelwood Brewing Co.’s brewmaster. "We want special beers, like Megafauna, on hand because for many people, this will be the only time they can try it. It’s a fun beer for us to not only brew, but to share."
Watterson also notes that this batch of Megafauna is especially delicious, "We are using the newest crop year of hops, it’s smelling great!"

If history repeats itself, Laurelwood’s Megafauna Imperial IPA will be gone just as quickly as it arrived. But Watterson hints at additional sneaky releases throughout the year.

Find it on tap and in 22 oz. bottles at Laurelwood’s Portland pubs, located on 5115 NE Sandy Boulevard and 6716 SE Milwaukie Avenue. A limited amount of Megafauna will also be available at specialty bottle shops throughout Portland.
