"Since introducing a beer competition in 2000, each year an esteemed panel of judges use a blind-tasting method to award medals to the best beers from around the world, maintaining the highest standards of integrity and professionalism." source, The Los Angeles Beer Awards
The rules are simple.
"Beers will be judged against others of similar style as defined by Brewers Association style guidelines. The judging will be held in closed sessions with BJCP certified judges present. All judging will be blind. No judge may participate on a panel where they have an entry or where there may be the appearance of a conflict of interest. All decisions of the judges are final."
In the end only Flyers Restaurant and Brewery came home with 3 bronze medals in categories: Other Strong Beer (Brouwers 8), English-style Mild Ale (Barnstormer Brown), and Robust Porter (Pacemaker Porter). For Flyers and head brewer Tony Savoy this marks their 8th win at a major competition this year. The other major competitions were the North American Beer Awards and the Washington Beer Awards.
“I am really excited for our recent ‘good luck’. Each of these competitions features a lot of really great beers from well known and talented brewers. I consider myself fortunate to be in such great company.” said Tony Savoy, Owner and Brewer at Flyers Restaurant and Brewery.
