Northwest Beer Guide: Washington Beer Guide: 2014: Atlas of Beer at Safeco Field. Seattle Mariners Regular Season.

"Since the Inaugural Game on July 15, 1999, Safeco Field has gained a reputation locally, regionally and nationally as a terrific setting for baseball and a great place for baseball fans. Sweeping views of Seattle's downtown skyline, breathtaking sunsets over Puget Sound, combined with excellent views of game action from all angles give fans at Safeco Field an experience unequalled in Major League Baseball." -Safeco Field history, Seattle Mariners http://seattle.mariners.mlb.com/sea/ballpark/

image of "Giants v Mariners" sourced, through Creative Commons, from jaycoxfilm's Flickr accountAbsorbing the quote for a moment it's hard to believe that Safeco Field will be 15 years old this July. During those 15 years 'The Safe' has seen the induction of radio legend Dave Niehaus, the Mariners becoming one of only 2 teams (since 1969) to have over 110 wins in a single season, Ichiro Suzuki breaking George Sister's 84 year-old hit record, and Felix "The King" Hernandez throwing the 23rd perfect game in Major League Baseball history. There are obvious omissions in the interest of summary. The fact is Safeco Field, much like the team have provided the Pacific Northwest with some wonderful memories.

During those same 15 years, the city of Seattle has enriched and inspired craft breweries to call the "Emerald City" their home. Today one only has to visit neighborhoods with names like Fremont, Ballard, So'Do (South Downtown), Pioneer Square, West Seattle, White Center, or Southpark. With names like Elysian, Fremont, Populxe, Big Al, or Odin; the city has benefited from so many locally-produced breweries.

But would you believe that for many years the only way to enjoy an Elysian Immortal India Pale Ale, Big Al Local Hero, or Schooner Exact Three Grid, was outside of Safeco Field? How could this happen? How could a ballpark, only a few blocks from Elysian Fields, not have a single drop of Elysian Immortal, Elysian The Wise ESB, or Elysian Fields Pale Ale?

image titled "Go Mariners!" sourced, through Creative Commons, from erinkohlenbergphoto's Flickr account.Lamentable as it might be, the beer selection at Safeco Field hasn’t been the most rewarding for the demanding imbiber. In fact the local beer selection, prior to 2003, was mostly comprised of heavyweights like Redhook Ales and Pyramid - while out-of-state breweries included New Belgium and Alaskan*.

Fast forward to 2010 and something of a renaissance has started, with the inclusion of more local breweries, as part of the regular draft / bottled lineup. In fact this year the Mariners will host over 70 locations where one can get a pint of India Pale Ale, Wit, Brown, or Pale Ale. With this in mind here's a non-static list of beers that can be found at Safeco Field. As with anything the list is subject to change in both availability and formt (bottled versus draft).

Same rules apply as they did with Section 121. Pair that Summer Ale or Ridgetop Red with some Holy Smoke (313) Pulled Pork or Brisket, while pairing those beers with a nearby Kidd Valley (325) burger isn’t a bad idea either. Otherwise I advice you take that West Point Pale over to Safeco Field Sausage (327) or High Point Pizza (329)
