If someone was to ask you what beer you drink what would you ask? Some would reference a mass-produced beer like Coors Light, Bud Light, or Miller Lite. Other people when asked might reference a local, possibly produced in a brewpub or homebrew supply store. For anyone living in North America the answer is often associated with an ale as opposed to a lager.
What you won't discover is a larger populace of people drinking beers brewed in other countries. This writer isn't talking about beers made from Germany, Austria, the United Kingdom, or Ireland. What we are addressing is the lack of endorsement - among beer drinkers - as it relates to Belgian beers. No, beers like Stella Artois, Hoegarden, Blue Moon, or Shock Top; do not count.
Instead I'm addressing the lack of appreciation for Belgian beers styles like Goldens, Dubbels, Tripels, or Strong Dark ales. If you haven't heard of these types of beers then allow me to introduce you Sierra Nevada's Olvila Abbey Quad.
Ovila Abbey Quad is heady with aromas of caramel, rich malt, and dark fruit balanced by the spiciness and delicate fruity notes of a traditional Belgian yeast. This complex beer is a collaboration between Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. and the monks of the Abbey of New Clairvaux. It features sugar plums grown on the grounds of the Abbey and harvested by the monks in Vina. We hope you enjoy this collaboration ale.
If the above description sounds interesting, then we suggest you pick up a bottle at a nearby grocery store of bottleshop – February 2014. As with all beer releases you might not find it nearby. So make sure to ask your grocer to buy a case.
Inspired by the nearby Sierra Nevada Mountains, our beers are designed to be as bold, wild and unwavering as those storied granite peaks. We are committed to pushing the boundaries of craft beer and we look forward to the day that flavorful beers are the standard throughout the world
