image courtesy Deschutes BreweryFor this writer we cannot deny that things taste best fresh. In fact some of those ‘best consumed fresh’ items include a loaf of bread, pot of fresh-roasted coffee, a hot from the oven brownie, and of course a fresh-hopped IPA.

For this writer our list of favorite “fresh-hopped” beers is numerous. But there is no denying that Deschutes’ Chasin Freshies and Hop Trip belongs on that list.

Starting in a few weeks, Deschutes is releasing this year’s version of Chasin’ Freshies India Pale Ale, using fresh Amarillo hops - from Oregon’s famed Gamache Farms. And don’t think that I forgot about Deschute veteran IPA, Hop Trip - with Crystal hops from Sodbuster Farms.

Look for both beers, in 22 ounce bottles, to be available throughout the Northwest starting in October.

More on Chasin’ Freshies India Pale Ale

Chasin’ Freshies, dubbed after the ski town pastime of chasing fresh powder on the slopes, hit the scene last year with some well-carved turns. The highly celebrated Hop Trip has been enjoyed by Deschutes Brewery fans for nearly a decade and is once again offered in 12-ounce bottle 6-packs as part of the Bond Street Series lineup. Why the longevity for this particular brew? Not only does it taste fantastic, but there’s a great story. The brewery team rushes over to the Willamette Valley each year to pick, bag and load up fresh whole flower hops. They quickly return to Bend, Oregon and dump these freshly harvested jewels into the brew kettle. The result?
