Event Preview: WA: Have Growler Will Travel & The Pine Box host the 1st ever Post-PAX Pint Throwdown, a benefit for the Child’s Play charity

image "PAX 2009 - Day 1" acquired from, via Creative Commons, allaboutchase's Flickr pageAs writers, freelance or otherwise, it's the dream to one day contribute to the public consciousness. Whether through photos, written words, or spoken; the dream is to leave behind a legacy.

For most freelance writers the recognition comes in the form of an infrequent page visit, a new friend or follower, or a small amount of financial compensation. Unfortunately, for most, this is the most any writer can expect, unless one is willing to challenge themself.

Several years ago, this joker took a cue from a good friend and Oregon-centric beer writer, to promote a festival after my own heart. The name of the festival was Session Fest, which focused on beers that did not exceed 5.00% Alcohol by Volume.

Although this was not the first 'writer-sponsored' event, it was my present to an Industry that I have supported as a consumer and humorist for over 10 years.

So as someone that has sponsored an event I'm consistently elated when I see fellow beer scribes promoting their own causes.

This September 2nd, at The Pine Box, I'm happy to advertise the Post-PAX Throwdown, sponsored by Have Growler Will Travel (aka, Dikla Tuchman).

What is the Post-PAX Throwdown?

Let's start with PAX first.

The Penny Arcade eXpo (PAX) is a series of gaming festivals held in Seattle, Boston, and Melbourne, Australia. PAX was created by Jerry Holkins and Mike Krahulik, the authors of the Penny Arcade webcomic, because they wanted to attend a show that gave equal attention to console gamers, computer gamers, and tabletop gamers. Ok, so it's a gaming festival. But what does this have to do with beer?

In partnership with and for the benefit of Child’s Play Charity, Pine Box Bar will be host to the first annual Post-PAX Pint Throwdown beer event.

Scheduled to coincide with one of the largest, most popular gaming conventions in the county -- The Penny Arcade Expo -- this gaming-themed beer competition will highlight imaginative craft beer creations by local breweries. Join nine Pacific Northwest breweries on Monday, September 2, 2013 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Pine Box Bar to taste some specialty brews to benefit local non-profit Child’s Play Charity.

Attendees will have the opportunity to taste all nine brews and vote for their favorite. The winner will go on to be served on tap at the 10th Annual Child Play Charity Dinner & Auction held in December 2013 in Bellevue, Washington.

Ah. So now I'm starting to understand.

Tickets, which are on sale right now, get you nine 5 ounce samples, or a little over 3.5 pints of beer. If you want more after that you need to cough up  two bills ($2, cash only) for additional 5 ounce taster.

During the festival you are also encouraged to enter your name, via raffle tickets (for $1 cash each).

So I just walk up and order a Full Sail Berlinerweisse?

Wrong!
