Halloween is coming!
For this writer I cannot resist pondering the superstitious. From folklore to mythology to the metaphysical, I’m all about researching the unknown. Which makes Halloween one of my favorite times of the year.
And since this is a beer-inspired it would be impolite if I didn’t remind you that Elysian Brewing’s The Great Pumpkin Festival is coming this October.
Each year the folks at Elysian contact every brewery in the world to enter their beer into TGPBF. There is of course only one stipulation, it has to have been fermented with pumpkins. You heard me. Without pumpkins throughout the brewing process it’s not a pumpkin beer.
Which isn’t a problem for the 60+ beer conceived for this year’s event. In fact every one of the beers includes pumpkins, as well as spices commonly found in a certain orange pie.
This year, like the previous couple of years, the festival will be hosted at the brewery’s “production” location, near Airport Way. If you’ve stopped by Georgetown Brewing to fill up a growler or Full Throttle to pick up a couple beers, you’ve driven near Elysian Brewing. And like the past nine years, Elysian will be producing numerous beers to set the standard for what a pumpkin-style beer should taste like.
Expect to see Elysian favorites Dark o' the Moon Pumpkin Stout, The Gourdfather Pumpkin Barleywine, Mr. Yuck Sour Pumpkin Ale and The Great Pumpkin Imperial Ale returning as well as new collaborations including a pumpkin beer duo with San Francisco's 21st Amendment featuring a Pumpkin Belgian Tripel with ginger and a Pumpkin Baltic Porter with Caraway and Cinnamon.
Given that that it’s June and barely Summer, we will only say that details are under construction. But you can anticipate purchasing your tickets for this year’s festival, from Brown Paper Tickets and in all three Elysian pubs.
For now here are some dates that might help you plan ahead, Friday October 4th, 2013 4pm – 10pm, Saturday October 5th, 2013 12pm – 6pm, and Sunday October 6th, 2012 12:00 – 6pm.
Word of caution to the procrastinators, this event sold out last year! So don’t wait too long.
Elysian Brewing’s The Great Pumpkin Beer Festival is held at 5510 Airport Way South in Seattle, WA 98108.
