image courtesy Ninkasi Brewing For a larger portion of the population there’s no resisting the allure of breakfast. Whether its a warm cup of coffee, a bowl of cereal, or an egg scramble, breakfast rocks! But this is 2013 and an early one at that so why not consider eating a bit healthier. How about some oatmeal? If you’re watching your waistline you would be wise to avoid oatmeal that is flavored. But what about beer?

Ok, so maybe that was a terrible introduction into the announcement that Oatis Oatmeal Stout is gaining a yin to it’s yang. Or maybe it was an example of how bi-polar our appetites suffer when regular oatmeal sounds bland when compared to something sweet.

Recognizing this the brewers as Ninkasi has elected to add something extra to their Oatis Oatmeal Stout. Introducing Vanilla Oatis Oatmeal Stout.

Hey, I’ve had this before, are you a little late to be promoting this? Good point. Which is why we are happy to announce that Vanilla Oatis will be available as an annual beer. As of March 2013 this beer will be featured in 22oz husk, ready to be consumed by the ‘diet cheater’ in all of us.

More on Vanilla Oatis

“Aged on whole natural vanilla beans, Vanilla Oatis is a unique and delicious take on our traditional Oatmeal Stout,” explains Nikos Ridge, Ninkasi Brewing Company co-founder.

To create this brew, whole vanilla beans from Eugene’s Singing Dog Vanilla were added to the fermentation tank, essentially dry-hopping the beer with an intoxicating vanilla flavor.

Brewery Description

A delicious oatmeal stout with just enough hops to balance the copious quantities of dark roasted malts, oatmeal for a creamy smooth drinkability, and whole vanilla beans for a rich complexity. To achieve this higher level of decadence, we added in whole vanilla beans to the final stage of fermentation – the same process we use to dry hop a beer.

Brewery Tasting Notes

Vanilla Oatis Oatmeal Stout is characterized by a roasted front flavor, smooth rich oats, a touch of chocolate flavor, and a rich vanilla complexity imparted by whole vanilla beans. It is bigger than a traditional stout with more alcohol, body and a touch more bitterness to keep it balanced.
