Beer Release: WA: Coming Soon … Chuckanut Sticke Alt

N.W. Beer GuideComment

To the point, Bellingham (Washington) darling Chuckant Brewery and Kitchen has announced the return of their Sticke Alt. Since 2010 Sticke Alt was a fan favorite when it arrived on draught, at the brewery. Unfortunately the beer was forgotten about these past two years. Which is why the brewery is taking the time to remind you that they haven’t forgot, come 2013.

Chuckanut Brewery & Kitchen at 601 W Holly, Bellingham will be tapping into their production of Sticke Alt to celebrate the winter mid January. Chuckanut Sticke Alt is a much stronger version of Alt bier in hops, malt, and alcohol. Invented in Dusseldorf, Germany,”sticke” or “secret” is a reference to the secret gossiping customers had when the brewmaster was generous weighing the ingredients and putting in more than usual. At Chuckanut we intentionally use a greater portion of our imported German malts and German Spalt hops to create this full-flavored high alcohol beer. A blend of traditional dark and light malts give this beer its character as well as the pronounced finishing hop flavor.

Chuckanut Sticke Alt has not been available for the last 2 winters but with our extra fermentation tanks we are able to age this style of beer the additional time it requires. Sticke Alt has an original gravity of 16.5 Plato, ABV of 6-6.5% and 45 IBU’s.

The carmelized malt flavors in Sticke Alt are great with roasted chicken and the hops give the beer the cutting power to handle rich sauces and gravies. Great with pork, sausages and loaded up burgers Sticke is the perfect accompaniment for most hearty winter style foods.

Look for Sticke Alt to be featured at the brewery first and if you ask nicely enough, they might share some with nearby bars (like Brown Lantern or Green Frog).
