(MBC) is very proud to announce the release of Aloha B'ak'tun, the last of four limited release beers for 2012.  Aloha B'ak'tun, which loosely translates to "hello and goodbye to a calendar period of 400 years", was brewed last Friday, December 21st to coincide with the last day of the Mayan calendar, which many believed was to be the end of the world.  Of course, nothing came to an end that day, but MBC did say goodbye to some of their 'ohana and welcomed new members to the team - Aloha B'ak'tun is a tribute to them all.

Brewed as a stout, and using Belgian-style ingredients, took the unusual step of including Big Island chocolate, Hawaiian-sourced chipotle peppers, and cinnamon. Weighing in at 7.00%, the beer’s additional ingredients maintain owner Garrett Marrero’s dedication to supporting the island economy.

For those looking to stock up for winter you’ll have to wait for one of 4300 cases to arrive at your local grocer or bottleshop. This doesn’t necessarily translate to all 400 barrels (or 800 kegs) shipping to your nearby Fred Meyer or Safeway. But it’s a safe bet that there will be at least a few four packs for purchase.

All market areas where MBC is distributed will receive product but specific allocations will be based on sales, explains Garrett MarreroAloha is often thought of to mean hello and goodbye; we felt the name was fitting given the 'uncertainty'.  The draft release on December 21st was a big hit and we're excited to launch cans shortly.  I'm sure they'll go quite fast as our limited release series has really developed a following.  Cheers to all!

Look for Aloha B’ak’tun wherever you find Maui Coconut Porter, Big Swell India Pale Ale, or Bikini Blonde. And as always if you can’t find it at your local grocer, ask them to buy some!

About Maui Brewing Co.

Maui Brewing Co. is a truly Hawaiian brewery, and proud to make 100% of their beer, canned and draft, in Hawaii. Recognized as Hawaii's #1 craft beer since 2005, the company has a strong commitment to the local economy and the environment. MBC beers are packaged with the most eco-friendly materials. Cans are manufactured on Oahu and designed by local Maui artists. They have the added bonus of better protecting the beer from both light and oxygen damage which can compromise the taste. Plastic rings are dangerous to marine life and therefore, a unique, recyclable plastic carrying device is used to hold the cans. The spent grain from beer production is donated to local ranchers for cattle feed and composting. MBC is also very active in several local Hawaiian charities.

Founder Garrett Marrero and his wife, Melanie, operate a 7-barrel brewpub at the Kahana location as well as a 25-barrel production brewery and canning facility in Lahaina. Maui Brewing Co. is a truly local beer as 100% of their products are made in Hawaii.
