Newsflash! This writer forgot to mention that a certain beer is being released to the masses of Seattle, this weekend.

What that means is the Big Time Brewery & Alehouse is releasing their Old Wooly Barleywine. Since 1990 (or 23 years!) Old Wooly has much sought after by those who love barleywines. Don't believe me? You only have to look to Beeradvocate or Ratebeer to see what the heck I am talking about.

Brewery story about this year's edition of Old Wooly Barleywine

For the 2012 version Bradley and Drew decided to kick up the hops and make it a true American style Barleywine.  There are over 3 lbs of hops per barrel, Columbus and Millennium for bitterness and a liberal use of Cascade and Centennial for the middle and finish hops.  This beer finished at 4.5 degrees Plato and is 9.9% alcohol by volume.

In a nutshell that means this beer is still a sipper, while punching you in the mouth with hops. However, it’s still ill-advised to drink more than one and expect to drive home safely.

Have someone who isn't into Barleywines? Not a problem, since the brewery will be featuring Yulefest Christmas Ale, Breakfast Cereal Killer Imperial Chocolate Coffee Oatmeal Stout, Icculus IPA, Tinderstick ESB, Scarlet Fire and Bhagwan's IPA's, Amber, Pale, Porter, and the last keg of Hopgoblin Pumpkin Ale.

As is tradition the Alehouse will have Old Wooly Barleywine on draught starting at 11:30 AM. While you're enjoying a glass (or two) of Old Wooly, you would be wise to pick up a few bottles to take home.
