Beer Release: WA: Get It Now … Big Time The Great Scottish Export-style Ale

image sourced from Big Time Brewery's websiteOver the weekend Seattle’s oldest Brewpub released a Scottish Export Style Ale to commemorate The Great Kilted Run.

Brewery Description of The Great

… is a Scottish Export Style Ale that is light on hops but full of malty goodness.  Light smoke and caramel flavors co-mingle and dance on the tongue.  The recipe was based on a recipe Bill Jenkins first brewer in 2008, "Barking Dog Scottish Ale", which won a gold medal at the Great American Beer Festival in the Pro-Am category.  We plan to send this beer to the GABF in October of this year.

As stated above, this beer (along with Icculus India Pale Ale) will be featured as a sort of ‘house beer’, in the beer garden at August 5th’s The Great Kilted Run.

About Big Time Brewery & Alehouse

Big Time Brewery & Alehouse has been in business in Seattle's colorful "U-District" since 1988. We are a classic American Alehouse located in an old yellow brick building with high ceilings and lots of stained wood. The pub has an antique bar, an extensive bottle and can collection, numerous historical brewery photographs, and lots of old beer signs and trays.

Big Time usually has at least 10 ales on tap, plus on Thursdays and Fridays we feature a cask conditioned "real ale" on the handpump. Our standard brews; Prime Time Pale Ale, Atlas Amber Ale, Coal Creek Porter and Bhagwan's Best IPA are on tap at all times. The other three taps and the cask conditioned pump rotate from week to week with some of the many specialty beers we produce over the year.

About The Great Kilted Run

With the hope of making the event a bit more “comfortable” for the participants, this year’s Great Kilted Run has been moved to the typically warmer month of August. Having originally taken place in May, the event will now take place at Seattle’s Magnuson Park at 9:30am on Sunday, August 5th.

Consisting of a 5K run/walk, a free Kids Dash for kids 12 & under and a post-race celebration inclusive of a beer garden, the move to August should provide a warmer and more engaging experience for all who attend. So should the addition of the new event site on Kite Hill within the park, the inclusion of free Peak’s Frozen Custard and the special Great Kilted Run Scottish Ale made by the U District based Big Time Brewery that will be served in the event’s beer garden. Plenty of other food and fun will be onsite.

Although not mandatory, participants are encouraged to wear a kilt while running or walking in the event. Leaving what qualifies as a kilt up to the discretion of the participants, past wardrobes have included plaid skirts, boxers, tartan sheets and more. The event also has 100+ kilts that can each be rented onsite for $5 each.

The Great Kilted Run is a family friendly event. Along with awarding prizes for the top finishers in the 5K run/walk, prizes will also be given to the largest team and to the person wearing the most authentic kilt. Participants in the free Kids Dash will all receive a finisher ribbon and a race number. Dogs and strollers are welcome.
