Portland, OR – There is an old saying “… when god closes a door he opens a window”. It’s this uttered phrase that we both weep and smile at the pending news, The Guild Public House is closing its doors.
Despite over a year of being in business, just a couple of blocks from Burnside Brewing, Cascade Barrel House, and a few other breweries; The Guild Public House is closing up for good.
Given the news we considered contacting co-owner Jesse Cornett regarding this choice but as it turns out he sent this instead.
Thank you for your ongoing support of The Guild. We’d like for you to be of the first to know that we’ve made the difficult decision to close the business at the end of the month. After nearly a year in business, we’ve realized that we’re unable to continue the business if we’re going to have the lives we value.
I’ve joked many times that the MPA I earned in grad school doesn’t stand for Master of Pub Administration. I miss the ability to work to support causes that help the public good and look forward to returning to my passion, regardless of whether I remain in the private sector or return to the public realm. Molly does great work supporting those in need and our closure will mean that she can have greater focus and less distraction.
We’re not going out without a bang and look forward to several events this month, most of which we told you about earlier this week. I hope you’ll visit our Facebook page to check out what we have going on and come on in and help us finish off the month strong.
The Grand Finale doubles as my 36th birthday celebration on October 29th. We’ll be open from 4-late. We hope you can join us. We’ll have tasty munchies and fire sale drink specials. And it’s Halloween weekend so costumes are welcomed and encouraged.
While the end of The Guild means one less spot to enjoy something local, it doesn’t mean we have seen the last of Jesse Cornett or Molly Aleshire.
At a minimum we ask that you visit The Guild on October 29th to not only wish Jesse Happy Birthday but also good luck in his future endeavors.
We wish him and the entire staff at The Guild the very best of luck.
