Hard to believe that in a few short days you will be able to get your hands on an Autumn favorite, Elysian Night Owl Pumpkin Ale. True there has already been circulating mentions regarding the release of this year’s batch, but that doesn’t mean we can’t mention it as well.
Night Owl has become a Northwest fall classic, brewed with seven and a half pounds of pumpkin per barrel added at all three phases of brewing (mash, kettle and fermenter). It's also spiced in conditioning, with ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and allspice. In Beer Advocate, the Alstrom brothers gave Night Owl high marks, remarking on the melon-like quality of the pumpkin, combined with spicing which "slowly strolls hand in hand with the balancing hop bitterness." They also rank it as "one of the most complex pumpkin ales we've had to date."
Down to the hooting details: Night Owl is an easy-drinking pumpkin ale made with Pale, Munich and Crystal malts, green and roasted pumpkin seeds, and pumpkin in the mash, boil and fermenter. It is bittered with Magnum hops and spiced in conditioning with nutmeg, clove, cinnamon, ginger and allspice. 5.9% ABV, 18 IBU.
Look for this to start showing up on the shelves or on draft at the brewery and select locations throughout the region. As always if you don’t see a bottle of this ask your server or grocer to buy some!
The Elysian was founded in 1995 by principals Dick Cantwell (President/Head Brewer), Joe Bisacca (CFO/Head of Operations) and David Buhler (Sales & Marketing Director). Our first Seattle location, a 220-seat beer hall and our main brewery, opened in 1996 on Capitol Hill, Seattle’s most populous neighborhood. In 1997 Elysian was chosen to operate a pub and small brewery at Gameworks—a large entertainment complex owned by Universal Studios, Dreamworks & Sega. Elysian left this partnership in 2002 upon expiration of the five-year contract. A short year later Elysian opened TangleTown, an 80-seat neighborhood brewery/bistro. With a 3-bbl pilot brewery, Elysian-TangleTown acted as the brewers' test kitchen, fueling the creative fires and helping cement Elysian's reputation as Seattle’s top brewpub. The most recent addition to the Elysian empire, Elysian Fields, opened in August 2006. Perched next to Seattle’s two sports arenas, Fields seats 400 and packs the house at lunch and on gamedays. It is typical for us to offer over twenty different Elysian beers between the three locations.
