Portland, OR – As regular visitors to this site, you have no doubt seen our many photos associated with everything from the casual beer get together, to the more formal brewers dinners. With each photo we include we not only give the story additional energy, but promote a photographer.
For some time PortlandBeer.org’s Matt Wiater has been a gracious man, allowing us numerous occasions to promote his eye and editing skills, all for the sake of promoting great beer.
Today, we learned he has just submitted a video (photo slide), as his entry into the Sierra Nevada Beer Camp(starting this September). Located in Chico, California; the Sierra Nevada Beer Camp is a twice a year event where you the interested person get a chance to work in the brewery.
Here in the hallowed halls of Sierra Nevada, we roll out the red carpet for our Beer Camp friends. Join us in Chico for a unique look at this pioneering craft brewery. Meet us in the morning as we open the gate to learn ins-and-outs of Sierra Nevada, and to see if you have what it takes to be a brewer.
Here at the brewery you see, feel, taste, and experience everything that Sierra Nevada has to offer. You’ll get an in-depth tour of our facilities, including our brewhouse, barley field, cellars, and hop rooms. Jump on our one-of-a-kind-12-seater Bar Bike and cruise the brewery with stops at the bottling line and hop yard. Meet with the “mad beer scientists” in our Quality Assurance and packaging laboratories to learn the science behind beer storage and chemistry. Stop into our Taproom and Restaurant for lunch, and return that evening for the ritual “Tapping of the cask!” [more]
After reading this isn’t hard to believe why Matt would want to go down to Chico for this possibly once in a lifetime opportunity. Here is what he had to say regarding his submission and how you can help his cause.
ll be honest and upfront right at the beginning of this post: I have been to camp before. My parents used to send me away for the summers to a camp up in the Northeast Appalachians where I learned to shoot bow and arrows, ride horses, and break curfew. Now I’ve got the chance to do it all again, except this time with beer (although probably without the bow and arrows). Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. is holding their Beer Camp again, where winners can get an all access pass to check out their operations.
From the website: “Here at the brewery, you see, feel, taste, and experience everything that Sierra Nevada has to offer. I’ve entered this year’s contest in hopes of going down to Chico and documenting my experience about their facility, people, and process.
