Seattle, WA – Last week while having a meeting to discuss the upcoming Outburst Imperial IPA, we were introduced to a prototype of sorts in the form of Pyramid’s first ever canned beer. For the past couple of years, the craft beer world has slowly embraced that harshest of containers, the aluminum can. Long since associated with all things macro, it wasn’t until a craft brewery from Colorado, that canned craft beer had a chance.Today there are several breweries that not only can their beer in kegs but also in small 12ounce cans. For those of us that live in Washington it wasn’t until this past week (with 7 Seas Brewing), that we could finally add that pushpin to the map of craft breweries that can their beer.
Today, we have been informed by the good folks of Pyramid that they will soon be through a limited release, demonstrating that canned beer is possible from yet another northwest founded brewery. Starting in May and running through July (or until quantities run out), people in Seattle and Southern California can participate, finding versatile ways to enjoy your familiar Hefe’ when not near a bottle or tap.
Those that forgot what Haywire Hefeweizen is or never had it, here is what the brewery had to say.
“A beer this good deserves to go anywhere,” said Mike Brown, Commissioner of Inspiration and Aspiration for Pyramid Breweries. “Backcountry camping, paddling trips, music festivals, golf courses. Haywire in a can is ideal for all the places Pyramid drinkers celebrate summer’s best in the company of great friends and great beer.”Haywire is a deliciously deranged American-Style Hefeweizen and an award-winning take on the Bavarian classic. This refreshingly unfiltered wheat ale delivers a distinctively smooth flavor worth sharing with friends. At the 2009 Great American Beer Festival – the largest national beer competition recognizing the most outstanding beers produced in the United States today – Pyramid’s Haywire Hefeweizen was awarded the gold medal for best American-Style Wheat Beer with Yeast.HAYWIRE HEFEWEIZEN
