Seattle, WA - This week marks the final week before Belgianfest kicks-off at the "Engine Room", in Georgetown studios. For those who haven't been following the progress of this festival, the event will feature over 25 Washington breweries offering their spin on Belgian-style ales. On Saturday the 23rd there will be two sessions for you to partake in with the first being held at 12 PM and running through 4:00 PM and then another session starting at 6:00 and running till 10:00.
While you are counting down the days you might consider some Belgianfest related events occurring through-out this week.
Full Throttle Bottles celebrates Belgian Beer Month, details are still coming in and no doubt one of the owners will have another tasting put together soon enough.
Belgian Fest Preview
Beveridge Place Pub, Gary was kind enough to speak to us during the 5 O’Clock hour to inform us that Elliott Bay and Elysian will be providing casks for the bar top. Featured on behalf of Elysian will be the Red Queen a Saison fermented with Pink Peppercorns. Sitting alongside Elysian will be the Gulden Von Boorian from Elliott Bay Brewing. Naked City Brewery & Taphouse. If for some reason you can’t make the drive up to West Seattle to check out Elliott Bay and Elysian’s offerings, then check out what Naked City is putting together. Starting at 6:00 PM PST on the bartop, Don Webb, Donald Averil, and Raachal Steele invite you to check out Pike’s Tripel Kriek and Ram’s Abbey-style Wheat ale.

After Belgianfest, Elysian Beer Week
Elysian Beer Week (January 25th, 2010 thru January 31st, 2010). Join owners Dick Cantwell, Dave Buhler, and Joe Bisacca, as they offer you seven unique Elysian Belgian-style creations.
The current line-up proposed by head brewer (and Co-Owner) Dick Cantwell includes, Orthrus Belgian-style Dubbel, Groaning Board Trappist-style Table Beer, Toro Oro Yerba Mate Tripel, Bete Noel, Saison Elysee, Backhanded Compliment and The Red Queen (Elysian & Green Flash Collaboration brew). Look for these beers to be featured at all three locations (Elysian Fields, Tangletown, and Elysian Capitol Hill). Cost is the price of a schooner or pint and there is no admission fee to participate.
Orthrus Belgian-style Dubbel--two, two heads in one. Dark and delicious, brewed with organic pale, C-45, C-60, C-120 and chocolate malts with demerara sugar in the boil. Bittered with German Northern Brewer and finished with Czech Saaz hops. 17°P/1.068 SG; alcohol 5.25/6.3
Groaning Board Trappist-style Table Beer—goes well with food, fellowship and the labor of the day. Brewed with organic pale, C-15, C-60 and Munich malt; bittered with UK Fuggles and finished with Czech Saaz. 13.2°P/1.053 SG; alcohol 4.4/5.3
Toro Oro Yerba Mate Tripel—Beer gives you wings! Brewed with organic pale and pale demerara sugar. Bittered with German Northern Brewer and finished with Czech Saaz and Amarillo hops. 1.2 grams yerba mate per pint. SG 16.4/1.067; alcohol 6/7.2
Bete Noel—The dark side of the holidays, as treacherous as its paler sister. Brewed with pale, Munich, Castle Aromatic and roasted barley and black malts, with Turbinado sugar added to the kettle. Bittered with German Northern Brewer, finished with Czech Saaz and fermented with Westmalle yeast. SG 22.4°/1.092; alcohol 6.8/8.2
Saison Elysée—our classic Belgian-style Farmhouse ale. Brewed with organic pale, Munich, Wheat, Cara-Vienne, Cara-Munich malts and demerara sugar, with ground Cumin added in the boil. Bittered with German Northern Brewer and finished with Czech Saaz. SG 14.7/1.059; alcohol 4.9/5.9
Backhanded Compliment—brewed in the tradition of American-hopped Belgian ales brewed in the tradition of American IPAs brewed with Belgian yeast—got it? Brewed with organic pale, Munich, Cara-Hell and Cara-Vienne malts and bittered with Chinook and finished with Amarillo and Citra hops. Fermented with Westmalle yeast. Specs available later—it’s being brewed today.
Red Queen Saison—a collaboration between Elysian and Green Flash Brewing of San Diego, brewed with pale and Munich malts and bittered with German Northern Brewer. Pink peppercorns and rose hips added to the kettle, with more pink peppercorns and 2 bushels each of Pink Lady and Braeburn apples added to the secondary fermenter. SG 15.2/1.061; alcohol 5.1/6.1
