Seattle, WA - The Winterfest weariness has worn off and in its place are cold shivers and the feeling like maybe one isn't ready to give up beer. Tuesday of this week (December 8th to you laymens) an old fart and an upstart will be hosting release events (I will let you figured which is which).
Big Time is old enough to drink
Just last week Big Time Brewery (b. 1986) was celebrating the 21st release of their Old Wooly Barleywine and like a true young adult, they are having another party. Tuesday the 8th (tomorrow) Bill Jenkins and the whole crew of Big Time will be raising a pint to their 21st successful year in business.
Look for guest beers from former brewers (Elysian, Pike, Ram Northgate, and Port Townsend) featured alongside house beers. As an added bonus the release of the Double Decade Double India Pale Ale will be featured as well. For those with a calculator handy that's ten total IPAs (including the Bhagwan, Scarlet Fire, Jeezum Crow India Brown, and two special cask IPAs). The whole thing jumpstarts at five (5:00 PM) and runs into the night with tons of brewer's, craft beer lovers, and Big Time regulars all raising a pint to another successful year for the oldest brewpub in Seattle.
Naked City Brewery is legal
We received word from publicans Don Webb & Donald Averil that after many months of rumor and speculation they can now confirm, they are a brewery. No longer will the word Naked City Taphouse & Brewery be obscured by asterisk and parenthesis. As a way to say "what's going on" Naked City is having a brewers night featuring four of their recently produced beers.
- Yankee Drifter: A light ale brewed with pilsner and honey malts and German Tettnanger hops. A refreshing change of pace for this time of year!
- Hoptari 664: A fresh-hop harvest ale brewed with Pale, Rye, Wheat and Light Munich malts, flaked oats and Amarillo bittering hops. 50lbs of experimental wet hops were added to the hop back. Thanks to Chris Miller from Snipes for sharing the fresh hops straight from Yakima!
- The Big Lebrewski: An Imperial Cream Stout aged on Kahlua-soaked oak. This beer is already being well-received at festivals and we also tapped a cask for the Stouts and Porters night. As it continues to age, it is getting better and better and better!
- Bing: An English Style Old Ale made with Lyle’s Black Treacle Syrup and then “dry-hopped” with Washington cherries, cinnamon, star anise and cloves. Definitely enough to keep you toasty warm during the cold days of December!
COMING SOON… Hoptrocity: An Imperial Rye IPA brewed with Pale, Rye, Munich, Wheat, Crystal malts and Black Barley and Cascade, Centennial and Amarillo Hops.
The whole thing kicks off at opening (4:00 PM) so if you were pondering which brewery event to hit first, you have time for both.
