Elephant & Castle Pub Patio is open!
Announced back on the 8th of this month I am sure many of you weren't really looking outside and thinking patio sitting. But With the weather looking to improve both in temperature and skyline this might be a good week to pop over for a pint or cocktail.
"The only way to appreciate our patio more than these photos is to visit and enjoy with one of these refreshing cocktails and one of our tasty new salads!" source, Elephant & Castle newsletter

Proving another positive side effect of beer, saving lives
Many of you know the drill when you are in a bar, a grocery store or pub, you walk in, you look at the options and order whatever is on the list. The majority of those out there however never realize that without the distributor and the importer all of those great German, Belgian, Polish, English, and Irish beers wouldn't see the light of day or be spoke of in conversation. In the end we would be left with American craft copycats (not that this is a bad thing mind you) and no master beer style to compare with. Alan Shapiro who works on behalf of SBS Imports is a man who has for many years provided that emotional response that one responds with when they sip down a Belgian tripel or a hard cider. Over the years though he has also sojourned another occupation, fund raiser on behalf of cancer research.
Utilizing his experience in the craft beer and fermented fruit (aka, cider) industry Alan has collaborated with two additional brewing entities each year since 2006 to create a beer that inspires change and donating for a worthy cause.
"Now in its third year, Reunion - A Beer for Hope has welcomed four regional
breweries as production partners for 2009. Bison Brewing in California
returns for its third year. Joining Bison are Terrapin Brewing in Georgia,
Pizza Port Brewing in Southern California, and Elysian Brewing in Seattle.
The 2009 Reunion beer is a Double Wheat Ale with a hint of lemon, based on
the original Pete's Wicked Summer BrewR. The recipe for this year's brew
was conceived by Pete and Brian "Spike" Buckowski of Terrapin. Each brewer
has adapted that recipe to meet the requirements of their production
facility and place their individual stamp on the beer. It is available in
Elysian brewers Dick Cantwell and Marcus Stinson describe their version of
Reunion as hazy golden with a pronounced citrus nose. Fruit and subtle
spice notes dominate the pallet, with a rich, soft finish. It is brewed
with Pale Malt Torrified Wheat, Accidulated Malt, Weyerman Wheat and Great
Western White Wheat. It is bittered with Sorachi Ace hops and spiced with
orange peel, lemon grass and coriander. 7.5% alcohol by volume.
"I am thrilled to have Elysian on board as a brewing and fundraising partner
for 2009," noted Reunion co-founder Alan Shapiro. "They have been an
enthusiastic partner and I look forward to tasting another fantastic Elysian
"We are honored to work with Pete and Alan on this very worthwhile project,"
added Elysian Sales Director David Buhler.
Elysian and the Reunion team will officially launch this year's release with
a public event at Elysian Capitol Hill (1221 E. Pike St. Seattle, WA 98122)
starting at 5p on Tuesday, August 18. Joining the Elysian team will be
Reunion project Co-Founders Pete Slosberg (Pete's Wicked AleR) and Alan
Shapiro of SBS Imports, a Seattle-based specialty beer & cider importer.
Attendees will have the opportunity to purchase Reunion '09 pint glasses
featuring all four brewery logos for $5. 100% of those proceeds will go
directly to The Institute for Myeloma & Bone Cancer Research (www.imbcr.org)
the beneficiary of the profits generated by Reunion.
Reunion Double Wheat Ale will be sold at all three Elysian locations as well
as 15 other outlets in the Seattle-Tacoma area. Elysian will be making a
donation for every pint sold at their locations as well as every keg sold to
area restaurants and pubs. As these locations are confirmed they will be
posted at www.reunionbeer.com/myelomalinks.php.
