Floating around on various websites and Twitter ‘statuses’ Schooner Exact has actively been making mention of a beer that no one has heard of outside of personal circles. Word was sent to the staff at Schooner Exact regarding this ‘mystery beer’ and we jut received an answer to what Union Ale is.
“The story behind Union Ale is that it is the first beer that our brewmaster, Matt McClung, ever brewed. He did it for a friend’s wedding, hence the name. Since then he has brewed batches of it for other friends and family upon their union as well. This weekend Matt’s niece is getting married and this is the first time that we have ever brewed it on a large system.”
“Union Ale is a light golden summer ale that uses classic Northwest hops for fresh, fruity aroma and flavor.”
“Later this week you can start seeing Union Ale at the following places:”
- Beveridge Place Pub
- Brouwer’s Café
- Naked City Brewing Co.
- Duck Island Ale House
- Pub at Piper’s Creek
- Parkway Tavern – Tacoma
- Red Hot - Tacoma

Give the above locations a call starting maybe on Friday and see when they are tapping this rare treat. On a personal note I too know the honor that comes with having a beer made for a wedding as we shared a Belgian Tripel with our family almost three years ago this September. Congrats to Matt and his niece on the latest addition to their family.
