Leavenworth, WA - Located in Bend, OR and home to the familiar Black Butte Porter, Deschutes Brewery has provided fine crafted ales for over twenty years. In the past couple of years the brewery has gone through a renaissance of sorts with the release of the Bond Street and Reserve series line of beers. One of the most sought after ales Owner Gary Fish produces is "The Abyss" Imperial Stout. Inaugurated in the Fall of 2006 along with the Bond Street series' Hop Trip, and their annual Jubelale, the Abyss is a dark creature to be sure.

"The Abyss has immeasurable depth inviting you to explore and discover its rich, complex profile. Hints of molasses, licorice and other alluring flavors draw you in further and further with each sip. And at 11% alcohol by volume, you will want to slowly savor each and every ounce." -source, Deschutes Brewery's website

Last Saturday with the backdrop of the Cascade Mountains Deschutes padded their wall with two more awards, Best Dark Lager (although I am unsure how this Stout became a lager), and Judges Choice Best in Show at the Leavenworth Ale Fest. As an enthusiast that happily hoards away this black hole in a glass I can only say …

Cheers
