WA … Chuckanut makes a strong statement

It can be said that when I see a post on the Chuckanut Brewery and Kitchen’s website I recall the trip that fifty of us made back during the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival in 2008. Late to entering the “brewery” I saw standing prominently in the center of an empty room William “Bill” Kemper motioning around like a maestro with a composition before him. As he explained to the audience, his goal was to create a fully automated brewing system that could literally be initiated from anywhere in the world.

Today the brewery is churning out hit upon hit and impressing even those who would normally offer skepticism of a newly operating brewery. Their latest release is a Strong Bock which locally can be found at Naked City (among others) as well as on draft at the brewery itself. But don’t take my word for it here is what they had to say about their beer and the category it represents.

Hmm...the Strong Bock. If you haven't been into Chuckanut Brewery in the the last week or so, now is the time to go! Our traditional Strong Bock is on tap and it's going fast! It is tradition in Germany that Bock Bier be released in the spring, as Spring is almost upon us Chuckanut Brewery is pleased to present our Strong Bock to the Bellingham Community. Thus far, the Bellingham folks are loving this dark, malty, full bodied beer with a hint of toffee and a restrained bitterness. Strong Bock is hearty yet quite balanced...ringing in with a ABV of 7.5%! Chuckanut Brewery's Strong Bock is stronger than traditional German Bocks and does not disappoint! Interested in the history behind our Strong Bock, check out our "Beer" page for more details.

Whether you are dining in our "Kitchen" or taking a growler home and cooking for yourself, the Strong Bock pairs with many different types of food. The malt sweetness of the Bock matches classic fruit sauces like sour cherry, and the intensity of malt flavor can handle dark, tacky reduction sauces. Duck, goose, squab, and wood pigeon find Bock Beer an elegant accompaniment. Roast suckling pig is an absolutely spectacular match. Strong Bock loves potatoes: potato dumplings, mashed potatoes, roasted potatoes, baked potatoes, and home fries. Having a Strong Bock during Happy Hour...don't forget to try it with our tasty wood oven sweet potato fries! Dessert is a must with the Strong Bock! Try our dessert of a warm apple bread pudding with a Strong Bock creme caramel sauce...oh, so good!
Come in soon this beer won't last long!” –
