We dedicate this beer to all you hop heads looking to unwind after a hard day. In Hawaiian, “pau hana” (pronounced “pow hawna”) translates as “work is finished,” meaning, in this context, “let’s kick off the tropical hop party!” This version of Pau Hana Tropical IPA has an IPA as its base, and it’s infused with a POG blend (passionfruit, orange, guava) plus coconut to create a tiny tropical paradise in every glass. Layers of citrus hop flavors and aromas intertwine with the seductive flavors of passionfruit, orange and guava. Extensively dry hopped, this beer has an intense fruity hop character and mild malt flavor. While we’re teaching you about the culture, passionfruit in Hawaiian is Liliko’i (“lee-lee-co-e”). This Small Tank Series beer won’t be available for long.

6-7% ABV 45-55 IBUs

Test Flight Experimental IPA 2020 at Hellbent Brewing Company

unnamed.jpg

"Spring forward" with our new experimental hop IPA, “Test Flight Experimental IPA”! What makes it "experimental"? Glad you asked! It's a blend of four experimental hop varieties. Experimental hops are hops that are able to be commercially grown (good yields, disease resistance, harvest availability) and now are in the market to see how they are received both by the brewer and the consumers. The hops we have chosen are all hops that are well suited for west coast or hazy IPAs. Their attributes are citrus (tangerine/grapefruit), tropical (pineapple/mango,papaya), fruity (stone fruits/candy-like) and pine (dank/pine needles).
The hops:
Hopsteiner experimental #10416
Hopsteiner experimental #06277
HBC 586
HBC 692
The malts: pale malt, Vienna malt, flaked corn, malted white wheat, and rolled oats.
The alcohol: around 7% ABV
The IBUs: estimated 50-55

Stay tuned to our social media and be sure you're on our text message list to find out how you can score one of the limited edition coasters we had made for this event! Don't forget to set your clocks forward so you aren't late to the party!

The SBBC is made up of some of the city’s most well-known craft beer bars including Brouwer’s Cafe, Latona Pub, Bottleworks, Fiddler’s Inn, The Yard Cafe, Watershed Pub & Kitchen, Trailbend Taproom, Olaf’s, The Pine Box, Toronado Seattle, The Shambles, Beveridge Place Pub, Hopvine Pub, and The Dray.

The organization was created with several ideas in mind: to collaborate with our brewer friends; to create special beers for various charities; to meet and discuss the issues that affect our businesses; and to hopefully become a voice for the local beer industry from the unique perspective of craft focused bars.

Joining the many organizations that impact the beer industry including the WA Brewers Guild, the Seattle Restaurant Alliance, the Downtown Seattle Association and others, the SBBC plans to provide a different perspective and speak to issues related directly to the bars within the craft industry.

Collaborations are commonplace in the beer industry. The idea behind a collaboration beer is to meet, communicate on the elements of a recipe, be part of the brewing process, and help promote the strong sense of community that is unique to craft beer. Often these beers have a charitable nature to them, and in this case sales from Boop & Beep IPA will benefit the YWCA—a charity dear to Georgetown brewer Chris Bower and his family, as is reflected in the beer’s name, which is also of personal significance. The YWCA “is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.” The beer is a modern Northwest IPA with Columbus bittering hops in the boil and later additions of Strata, Citra and Mosaic. It will be released on January 29th at each of the SBBC bars and Georgetown Brewing’s taproom.

The members of the SBBC are excited to move forward, starting with the Georgetown collaboration and expanding their presence within the community. The guiding principle is to have a group of influential “beer bar folks” that will help navigate each other through some of the challenges facing small businesses. In the end, the organization is about celebrating craft beer and the community surrounding it, especially the amazing beer bars, neighborhood pubs and breweries that comprise and nurture it.

Tanner IPA Release at Bottleworks

81986351_10158020179188383_3511206296432934912_o.jpg

January 22nd marks 1 year since Tanner, a true beer-loving dog raised in the Seattle craft beer scene, passed away. In his honor, and because their beer was the first Tanner tried and loved, Big Time Brewery brewed a Tanner IPA in 2019 and is graciously brewing it again in 2020!

So please join us for a toast to Tanner at Bottleworks, one of his favorite watering holes, on January 22nd 2020. Tanner IPA will go on tap at 5pm and we’ll raise our glasses in his honor at 6:30pm. Can’t make it? The beer will be on tap at Big Time and a few select spots around town after the 22nd. Tanner IPA is hopped with Galaxy, Citra and Amarillo and is 7.5% and 60IBUs. It’s delicious and won 2nd place at the Latona Pub’s March IPA Madness in 2019.

A little more about Tanner:

Tanner was adopted at the Seattle Animal Shelter in 2005 by Nat Pellman (Manager at Brouwers Café) and Danielle Johnson. Many people ask if Tanner was trained to like beer and the answer is “definitely not”. He was about a year old when he demanded (by barking incessantly) to taste from a growler of Big Time’s Bhagwan’s Best that had just been opened. After that he was obsessed and his thirst for beer became well-known to friends and beer-tenders in Seattle and beyond.

He was a regular at The Dray, Bottleworks and even Structures in Bellingham, where he often put his front paws up on the bar, or barked, to order his beer! Towards the end of his life he visited Bottleworks every Friday night, where he was greeted with an IPA in an Orval Glass, laid out on a bar towel on the floor. Tanner lived to be 14 yrs old, and had his last beer at Bottleworks just a week before he passed peacefully at home in January 2019. Tanner IPA honors his life and love for beer!

McMenamins Terminator Stout can release at 23rd Avenue Bottle Shop

terminator is many things: the planetary line between light & dark, a kickass ‘80s movie, a beer that blows you away. First brewed in 1985, Terminator Stout is the result of a fondness for big, burly German beers, kiln-baked grains and a few failed batches. When Mike McMenamin and the Hillsdale crew perfected the recipe and poured a pint, they noted the line where a rich, coffee-with-cream colored head rests atop the black-as-night Stout, and though this terminator marks the line between light and dark, it is the union of the two that gives us the rich notes of chocolate, nuts and coffee. Some lines are meant to be crossed.

With the conclusion of Halloween, comes the fast realization that Thanksgiving is only 27 days away and with it the dirge of Christmas commercials, advertising, and decorations. So why not numb the headache, inspired by countless X-mas promotions, by drinking something equally festive? How about a Jolly Roger Christmas Ale?

Composed of Pale, Crystal, Carastan, Munich and Wheat malts and barleys; in addition to classic hops Cascade, Chinook, and Amarillo. At 9.5% ABV (Alcohol By Volume) and 42 IBU, Jolly Roger is a true-to-form Winter Warmer and should compliment future bonfire parties, winter-themed parties, or your next Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner. What also makes this beer remarkable is its cellar-ability (if that's even a word), if one is willing to set aside a bottle or six-pack for between 3 to 5 years. This is probably why the brewery keeps a few years of Jolly Roger in their cooler, just in case they want to have a party. Oh, that.

Starting at 5 pm, this Friday (November 1st), Seattle's Maritime Pacific Brewing Company is releasing its annual classic - Jolly Roger Christmas Ale. During the event, guests will have an opportunity to enjoy this year's 2019 Jolly Roger, as well as variants including; Port Aged, Bourbon Barrel-aged, plus a few limited editions all available in flights or other formats. In addition to Christmas Ales abound, the kitchen has a limited-edition menu which should pair well with that Jolly Roger in your glass.

As always, this event is open to the public and there will be specials on six-packs, cases, and 22-ounce bottles of Maritime Pacific Jolly Roger Christmas Ale. Maritime Pacific Brewery is open most days from 12 pm and is located at 1111 NW Ballard Way in Seattle Ballard neighborhood. For more information, visit https://www.maritimebrewery.com/.

We did it again! We made more beer with more friends! We’re really feeling the collaborative spirit lately, so we teamed up with our good buddies at Ravenna Brewing to make the latest in the Chuck’s collab series; Secret Handshake IIPA! This Imperial IPA is focused around Sabro hops, supported by both Vic Secret and Zythos. We’re expecting 35 cases to drop on Friday, the 12th, and should be available when we open. We’ll be limiting the release at 2 four packs per person to spread the love, and we’ll have draft available day of! Come hang out with us next Friday!!

3-Way IPA Release at The Beer Junction

Press Release

[Astoria, Oregon] The concept is rock solid. Each year Fort George travels the Pacific Northwest, tastes a lot of great beer, and looks for two breweries making innovative and exciting IPAs. After the invitations are extended in late summer, the collaborators come to Astoria to hang out, share more beer, and most importantly work together on a concept for the next 3-Way IPA.

SUMMER 2019 LINEUP

For 2019, Cloudburst Brewing joined the party. This award winning Seattle brewery brings with them a ton of experience, lead by Steve Luke, the former head of experimental brewing at Elysian and creator of the Space Dust IPA recipe, among others. And they also brought the Corporate yeast strain for this year’s beer. Where did they get it? We weren’t asking any questions.

Although Ruse Brewing in Portland is only two-years-old, these folks are definitely not unknown in the brewing world. Co-Founders Devin Beware and Shaun Kalis came from Culmination Brewing before branching out on their own. And already Ruse has been voted by the Willamette Week Oregon Beer Awards as both best new brewery and best small brewery in Oregon.

BETA IPA TESTING

After three days of getting to know each other in Astoria, they began the Beta IPA process with the first small batches starting in November of last year. The initial idea was to brew something in between a New England style hazy and a West Coast IPA - unfiltered with pilsner malt, red wheat, golden promise, plus ample discussions about pH levels in the whirlpool and the amounts of each hop addition.

Hops are the final and perhaps most important component to the 3-Way IPA collaboration. Sourcing the thousands of pounds needed to brew this beer can be tricky. Three hops were initially chosen - Cashmere, Idaho 7, and Citra. However, they also hatched a plan to try out different dominant dry hops in each batch, while also making minor adjustments to the rest of the recipe.

THE FRUITS OF THEIR LABOR

3-Way IPA combines all of the fruit-forwardness of a hazy, but with that classic touch of bitterness from a West Coast IPA. Many Beta IPA test batches were brewed (and enjoyed) to achieve that balance. The result is a bright, citrus fruit bomb that doesn’t finish too heavy or sweet. And it also doesn’t hold back on the hops.

But the fun doesn’t stop there. As an added wrinkle to this year’s collaboration, that dry hop will also rotate throughout 3-Way IPA season. The first batches are heavily dry hopped with Citra (notes of orange juice, grapefruit zest, and bitter lemon peel). As the weeks go by, supporting hops will take a starring role. And you’ll be able to see which hop is dominant by checking the bottom of your can.

For those of you with tickets to Lupulin Ecstasy, taste the new 3-Way IPA on Saturday, May 25th at the historic Flavel Mansion & Grounds, surrounded by lupulin delights from every 3-Way IPA collaborator throughout the years. If you don’t have a ticket, unfortunately it is sold out. But 3-Way IPA will be on sale at Fort George starting Sunday, May 26th. And at the brewery, there are no limits on can sales.

Join all three collaborators for the first release parties in Seattle on Friday, May 31st at Chuck’s Hop Shop Central District, and in Portland at Ruse Brewing on Saturday, June 1st. Then look for 3-Way IPA cans & draft releasing at pubs & bottleshops near you, starting June 3rd. Fort George is distributed only in the Pacific Northwest.
