Kriekfest at Von Ebert Brewing in Glendover

Press Release

Portland, OR – May 29, 2019 — Inspired by the Hood Valley’s abundance of cherry orchards, Kriekfest is the largest celebration devoted exclusively to barrel-aged cherry beverages. Kriekfest returns for its fourth annual inception, harvesting the biggest basket of cherry beers––and cider, mead, and sparkling cherry wine––yet, as well as relocating to a new venue. This year’s event will take place Saturday, June 29 from 11:30am to 7pm at Von Ebert Brewing Glendoveer, located at 14021 NE Glisan St.

New to the festival this year is a five-course kriek pairing dinner, which will be held at Von Ebert Glendoveer the evening prior on Friday, June 28. Dinner tickets are extremely limited and cost $125, which includes the meal and beverages, a commemorative stemmed glass, gratuity, and Kriekfest VIP admission the next day.

Kriekfest 2019 festival and dinner tickets are available now at merctickets.com/go/kriekfest. Advanced general admission costs $30 and includes six drink tickets. Advanced VIP admission is $50 and includes 13 drink tickets and half-hour early admission. GA is $40 and VIP is $60 at the gate. All beverages will be available in four-ounce pours; additional tasting tickets can be purchased onsite for $2 each. Minors and designated drivers receive free admission.

Kriek, Flemish for sour cherry, is a four-centuries-old style of spontaneously-fermented, lambic ales aged on cherries (pits and all). This year’s Kriekfest lineup features more than 30 participating providers, including the festival’s largest-ever (and possibly the globe’s largest) collection of world-class examples imported from Belgium and beyond, including Brasserie Cantillon, Brasserie Fantôme, Brouwerij Drei Fonteinen, Brouwerij Boon, Brouwerij Brasserie De Ranke, and Hanssens Artisanaal.

Cherry-growing regions are natural for such beers, so it’s no surprise Oregon’s Hood and Willamette Valley’s Belgian-inspired breweries make excellent krieks. This year’s lineup features sour cherry beers from both these regions, as well as five additional countries, and five more states. Many of the breweries are making their Oregon debut, including Michigan’s Speciation Artisan Ales and B. Nektar Meads, Wisconsin’s O’So Brewing, New Zealand’s 8 Wired, Australia’s Two Metre Tall, and Ontario’s Bellwoods.

The celebration of cherry-laced libations is family-friendly and features a cherry marketplace and other delicious food. For more information visit Kriekfest.com and follow updates on social media at @Kriekfest.

About Bigfoot Mojo

Blugrass duo

Upright bassist Belinda Underwood and national mandolin champion Josiah Payne met on the bluegrass scene in Portland, Oregon, as hired hands in other award-winning bands. Musicians in multiple genres since childhood, they both grew up in family bands before moving to Oregon, and were feeling orphaned without their families until they found each other in 2012. After playing together for 3 years as "Josiah and Belinda", they adoped the mascot of the Northwest when they became Bigfoot Mojo.

Songwriters and multi-instrumentalists, they have many creative offerings, including this new incarnation. Josiah and Belinda continue to mesmerize audiences with groove-based melodies and impeccable vocal harmonies (the kind that sound genetically-blended), setting a new standard for original music which defies genre boundaries.

Bigfoot Mojo plays with other amazing guest musicians to create a trio, quartet or bigger. Lately they have been featuring world-traveling guitarist Pete Kartsounes, when he is home from tour! Also featured is the young national twin fiddle champion Wilhelmina.

Josiah and Belinda also play together in the high-energy bluegrass band The Wild Wood and in their Middle Eastern funk band, Al Farasha.

About Silver Lake 66

Modern Americana

Maria Francis and Jeff Overbo define modern Americana with a winning amalgamation of classic country, folk and blues. Their songs have been hailed by numerous publications and radio stations for their knack of authentic, heartstring-tugging songwriting, impeccable harmonies and ardent guitar-playing. For nearly a decade through the 1990s, Francis and Overbo called Los Angeles home when they fronted a band called The Ruby Trees. The couple performed in a slew of local LA clubs, which includes appearances at Ronnie Mack’s Barn Dance at The World-Famous Palomino Club. Following a move to Portland, Francis and Overbo dealt with illness-related adversity that sidelined them from performance. But rising healthy and happy,  they found themselves adopted by a likeminded tribe of Portland musicians who helped them get back into the art of music-making. It was then that Silver Lake 66 was born. In August of 2016, the duo released a new LP, Let Go Or Be Dragged, featuring a collection of songs drawn from personal experiences of travel, love, loss and adversity. A group of local veteran musicians from the Portland Americana community round out the vocally driven, warm, tremolo-laden sound. The album has been a resounding success with Americana radio, receiving airplay from over 55 stations throughout the U.S., Canada and Europe. The album hit #19 on the Roots Music Report’s album chart, and the song “San Francisco Angel” reached #18 on its singles chart.

The Huffington Post’s Randy Radic describes Silver Lake 66’s music as “elegant simplicity” and “the real McCoy.” For Folk’s Sake’s Jonathan Frahm calls the duo “the real deal” and highlights their “sweet harmonies that mesh the entirety of their sound together.”

About The Hillwilliams

Bluegrass

The Hillwilliams are a group of Portland, OR musicians who have come together to celebrate the high lonesome sound and hot picking of traditional Bluegrass.

Brought together initially by admiration for bluegrass masters like Bill Monroe and The Stanley Brothers as well as 1970s bluegrass supergroup Old and in the Way, The Hillwilliams blend three strong vocalists, smoking fiddle, mandolin, guitar, banjo and doghouse bass, into a fun high energy mix, that harkens back to classic bluegrass, while exploring an exciting sound of their own. Whether they are playing the best of the traditional bluegrass repertoire, or playing their own original bluegrass songs, their shows are fun, high energy events that leave audiences asking for more.

The Hillwilliams' first album of original material, "Hill Yeah!", was released in February of 2015.

Vancouver Craft Beer Week Festival at PNE Fairgrounds

Press Release

Vancouver, B.C., May 14, 2019—Celebrating 10 years of craft beer and craft beer culture, the most anticipated craft beer and cider festival in Western Canada returns to the PNE Fairgrounds June 8 and 9, 2019, for a full weekend of live music, food, art, craft beer and cider, games and good times. The 10th annual Vancouver Craft Beer Week Festival (VCBW) caps off a 10-day citywide celebration of craft beer culture and community, running May 31 through June 9. For a complete list of VCBW citywide events including VCBW’s 10th Anniversary Kickoff Party on May 31, visitVancouverCraftBeerWeek.com.

In the spring of 2010, just after the completion of the most successful Winter Olympic Games in history, a few craft beer enthusiasts gathered around a table over a pint and a timely idea: to create a week-long festival to showcase “real beer”—and so, the first Vancouver Craft Beer Week was born. The first VCBW Festival started at a small venue (Heritage Hall on Main Street), hosting about 100 beer aficionados and 15 breweries. Now, a decade later, the city-wide celebration lasts 10 days, with more than 50,000 people taking part in dozens of events across the city—including 15,000 people at the annual VCBW Festival at the historic PNE Fairgrounds—all honouring the province’s favourite commodity.

VCBW 2019 Festival highlights:

• 100 + breweries and cideries pouring more than 300 beers and ciders

• Festivalgoers can create a list of must-try breweries and favourite standout beers in advance through the VCBW website

• An incredible lineup of food trucks and food purveyors including local favourites DownLow Chicken Shack and Big Day BBQ

• BC Ale Trail-er pouring 10 craft breweries from the furthest reaches of B.C.’s Ale Trail

• BC Farm Crafted Cider Association’s cider row featuring a variety of cideries from across the province

• United States Brewers Association has chosen the VCBW as their exclusive Canadian festival partner four years in a row. They are crossing the border to present 20+ breweries and 40+ beers, many of which have never been poured in Canada

• Live interactive painting with the Vancouver Mural Festival

• Go RV’ing presents a camp style lounge outfitted with one of their popular retro trailers

• VIP Section catered and presented by Whole Foods Market

• The BC Lions will have two players onsite hosting a football toss on the Saturday, and two members from the Felions Dance Team on Sunday

• No stress transportation to the festival with dedicated Evo valet parking (attendees must plan an alternative safe ride home)

• Live music lineup includes BBCampfire ShitkickersDead SoftEleven TwelvesFoxy MoronRain Citythe Spillionairesthe TanglersWoodheadMark Woodyard & FriendsVinyl Ritchie, Young Friend, plus the Carnival Band, Hip Hop Tricycle, DJ Sheldon Knight and DJ Hebegebe.

VCBW 2019 Festival

• Saturday, June 8 from 2pm to 7pm, and Sunday, June 9 from 12pm to 5pm at the PNE Fairgrounds, Vancouver. Single day, weekend passes and VIP tickets available now at VancouverCraftBeerWeek.com starting at $39.

VCBW is committed to providing a safe space for all genders, ethnicities, abilities and sexual orientations to enjoy and ensuring that craft beer is promoted and appreciated responsibly by adults. All volunteers, staff, and attendees should enjoy their experience free from harassment, assault or intimidation—any such behaviour will not be tolerated. As with all VCBW events, Serving It Right rules apply—attendees must be 19+ years of age and provide two pieces of ID. VCBW guests are reminded to drink responsibly and plan a safe ride home.

About Vancouver Craft Beer Week

Celebrating 10 years of craft beer and craft culture, Vancouver Craft Beer Week (VCBW) has become the most anticipated beer and cider festival in Western Canada. VCBW 2019 kicks off on Friday, May 31, continuing throughout the week with events and programming all over the city, culminating at the historic PNE Fairgrounds on Saturday, June 8, and Sunday, June 9, where more than 100 craft breweries and cideries will be pouring 300+ beers and ciders. SEASON FOR FRIENDSHIP
It’s a magical time of year on the North Coast. Constructed in 1885 by Captain George Flavel, a river pilot and Astoria’s first millionaire, the house and grounds are now owned and operated by the Clatsop County Historical Society. George was a great supporter of Astoria and lavish parties, much like Fort George.

THE CAUSE
A portion of the ticket price will go to the Clatsop County Historical Society, supporting the Uppertown Firefighter’s Museum, the Heritage Museum, and the Flavel House. More information can be found at www.cumtux.org.

Great NW beers are not limited to Portland, Bend and Hood River. There are some amazing brewers and breweries just over the west hills of Portland. To highlight this Westside movement, several brewers came together to create a uniquely styled beer festival. Brewer Michael from Deep Space Brewing had a vision to create a family focused festival, accessible to all ages.  Having a brewery location inside of Out of This World
Pizza we have the ideal location to completely make this a family-friendly event. To that end we’ve included local craft soda makers and street entertainment giving the entire family the opportunity to enjoy the festival.  Hence, the Westiside Beer and Soda Fest was born.

The Westside Beer and Soda Fest will include local craft beer passports, local craft soda passports, food options, activities for all ages, music and entertainment and the option for the kids to check out the popular Out of This World arcade and play area.  A portion of the festival proceeds will benefit Candlelighters for Children with Cancer.  This amazing non-profit organization “provides support, education, advocacy and hope to all children and their families affected by childhood cancer in Oregon and SW Washington”.  Tickets
will be limited so get yours early!

Tickets are available at www.deepspacebrewing.com and www.outofhtisworld.net. Advance purchasers receive the VIP package which includes additional exclusive tasters, discounted food prices, discounted Deep Space Brewing merchandise, $5 arcade card for future use and entry into a drawing for a 4 pack of Seattle Mariners tickets generously donated by Pepsi!

Beer passports (for ages 21 and over only) are available for $20 and include souvenir logo glass and one taster pour of every featured beer (12 total). Advance purchase/VIP passports receive 3 additional taster pours from the VIP exclusive beer taps. Full pours of the featured beers available for additional purchase.

Soda passports (all ages) are available for $10 and include souvenir logo mug and one taster pour of every featured soda (6 total). Advance purchase/VIP passports receive 1 additional taster pour from the VIP exclusive soda tap. Full pours of the featured sodas available for additional purchase. Limited availability of select featured beers and sodas will also be available for bottle purchase to enjoy at home.

Come out and enjoy yourself with the entire family.
