The festival celebrates the multi-cultural culinary tradition of fermented products including pickles, krauts, kombucha, beer, wine, cider, mead, chocolate, cheese, coffee, sourdough, and everything in between. The event marks the return of this popular festival, which hasn’t taken place in-person since January 2020, due to the global pandemic.

Visitors will enjoy an all-day vendors exposition, workshops and demonstrations, activities for the whole family, and other fermentation focused events.

“We are thrilled to be hosting Brine, Brew & Barrel in-person in 2023, which will bring festival goers, foodies and families together to explore all of the culinary delights that fermentation has to offer,” said Karolina Lavagnino, spokesperson for Neuman Hotel Group and festival coordinator. “We’re looking forward to hosting the beer and kombucha breweries, cideries, cheesemakers, hot sauce producers, bakers, chefs and other artisans to Ashland for a fun weekend of demos, workshops, tastings and other festivities.”

Brine, Brew & Barrel festivities will kick off Friday night, January 13, at the historic Ashland Springs Hotel with BrewBash, a 3-course dinner showcasing Rogue Ales beautifully paired with a special menu crafted by Larks Home Kitchen Executive Chef, Franco Console.

On Saturday, the main festival held at Ashland Hills Hotel & Suites will offer a vendor tasting event as well as hands-on workshops, demos and talks with fermentation experts including Alex Lewin and Kirsten Shockey. Fermentation festivities will end with a Hot Sauce and Bloody Mary Brunch on Sunday, January 15.

Expo passes are available for $20 for Saturday, January 14. Children 12 and under attend for free. For tickets and more information, visit http://www.oregonfermentationfest.com/tickets/

9th Annual Dark Beer Fest at Flying Lion Brewing

9th Annual Dark Beer Fest at Flying Lion Brewing

image sourced from event host

Event Details

Seattle, WA - During the darkest time of the year...comes a celebration with the darkest of beers. Flying Lion Brewing invites you to share in their love of dark beer at the 9th Annual Dark Beer Fest, taking place at the brewery, Thursday, December 15th through Sunday, December 18th from 10am-midnight each day.

Their biggest and most awaited event of the year, this festival fills their taproom with beer lovers and flight boards abound! No tickets or reservations are required; all seating is on a first come, first served basis.

Dark Beer Fest started at Flying Lion Brewing in 2014 and has grown from a modest 6-beer list to a full 30+ beer, multi-day event complete with cellared favorites, special releases, and plenty of limited availability brews. We're talking all dark beer, all weekend, with styles changing each day. Bring your growlers too - all of these exclusive beers are available for growler fills! If you haven't been, you're missing out. They plot and plan all year long so mark your calendars - they think the only reason you should travel this December is if you're going there! Here are some of this year’s highlights:

ANNUAL DARK BEER COLLABORATION! - Every year they partner with a different local brewery to bring you a new and exciting dark beer made exclusively for this event. This year they got together with friends at Optimism Brewing to bring you a dark twist on a porter! Available in cans and on draft from both breweries.

BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND! - Brownrigg Hard Cider is crafting up another dark cider exclusively for this event!

10AM EARLY OPEN + DONUTS! Now an annual tradition (because who doesn’t love donuts and dark beer), they open at 10AM each day with FREE donuts (while supplies last) for the early risers! Many of the beers are limited and may only last one day so come early and get that special dark beer you've been waiting for

Follow the Facebook Event Page or check their website for updates, the weekend beer lineup and special announcements.

Flying Lion Brewing is a family operation in Columbia City, Seattle, conceived by four beer-loving brothers and their parents. It all started with root beer batches in the basement and dinner-table discussions about beer flavors and hop utilization. Years, beers, and many late nights later, they built the brewery they’d always dreamed of. The taproom is open 7 days a week and is kid and dog-friendly. Though there isn’t a kitchen, you are always welcome to bring in your own food - bring the picnic or choose from 25+ restaurants within easy walking distance!

Press Release

PORTLAND, Ore. … Japanese and Portland collaboration beer festival Fuji to Hood returns to northeast Portland’s Culmination Brewing on Saturday, April 25th, 2020. Tickets are on-sale now for this one-of-a-kind event that will feature 17 collaboration beers, 1 collab cider and 1 collab kombucha. Each craft fermentation team has been tasked with using atleast one Japanese ingredient in their collaborations. Fuji to Hood will also feature Japanese food vendors, sake, DJ’s and more in an expanded outdoor tented space at 2117 NE Oregon St, Portland, OR 97232 from noon - 6pm.

Fuji to Hood promotes industry, cultural, and interpersonal exchange between Oregon and Japan, by exclusively featuring beverages made in collaboration between craftspeople from both regions. Participants spend months jointly planning their beers, ciders, and kombucha, and personally attend the event to share their creations with festival attendees. As in 2018, Culmination Brewing will host this event in front of their taproom, with a VIP session from 11AM to 12PM, and a general admission session from 12PM to 6PM.

Fuji to Hood was first held in Portland in 2018 with 10 brewery collabs and 1 cider collab. The following year the fest jumped to Japan for Hood to Fuji and expanded to 17 collaborations with Oregon brewers making the trip for the event in June. In 2020 Fuji to Hood returns to Portland with 18 collaborations made in Oregon with the Japanese brewers traveling out to attend the festival.

Japanese ingredients expected in this year’s beer and cider menu include a number of citrus fruits, persimmons, koji rice, matcha green tea, peppercorns, dried plums, and even shiitake mushrooms. As an extra offering at Fuji to Hood, an Oregon-Japan collaborative kombucha will also be served.

Collaboration teams include the following well-known breweries, cideries, and kombucha makers from Oregon and Japan:

  • Boneyard + Heiwa Craft

  • Breakside + Ise Kadoya

  • Brew Dr. Kombucha + KOMBUCHA SHIP

  • Cascade + RISE & WIN

Hopwired Festival 2020 begins February 29 2020 at the Croatian Cultural Center in Vancouver, Canada. Entry starts at 1:00pm.

Featuring local, national, and international craft beer and third-wave coffee. Hopwired encourages partnership between craft beer and coffee roasters to make beverages that are fruity, flowery, tangy, spicey, nutty, chocolatey, sweet, sour, soft, mild, and strong.

We have selected some of our favourite breweries and roasters to team up with each-other and bring you some of their best offerings. Patrons at the event will be able to taste the beer, and also the coffee that’s been used in that beer alongside their partner brewery.

Hopwired is focused on coffee. We also offer food trucks, donuts, and water by Element H20 to give your palate a break so that you can be nourished and enjoy your day.

Expect live interviews and tastings with brewers and roasters hosted by Aaron from CASCADIAN.BEER. With over 15 years in the broadcast industry in three countries, Aaron’s podcast stands out from the others and recently ranked as high as #2 in Apple Podcasts for craft beer. His background includes interviewing Paul Hadfield of Spinnakers, Canada's first brewpub in Victoria, to small up and coming breweries like Steel & Oak, Dageraad, and Propolis. Aaron recently interviewed industry leaders of a national scale like Charlie Papazian and other leaders in the Brewers Association.

We end the night with a special presentation from the Vancouver Coffee Snob. His unique style of writing has been called 'bold', 'unique' and 'worse than my 5 year old’s best efforts". He vehemently denies that his writing is bold and unique. Expect a coffee fueled energy award show that can only be described as bold and unique.fe
