We have selected some of our favourite breweries and roasters to team up with each-other and bring you some of their best offerings. Patrons at the event will be able to taste the beer, and also the coffee that’s been used in that beer alongside their partner brewery.

Expect live interviews and tastings with brewers and roasters hosted by Aaron from CASCADIAN.BEER. His background includes interviewing Paul Hadfield of Spinnakers, Canada's first brewpub in Victoria, to small up and coming breweries like Steel & Oak, Dageraad, and Propolis. Aaron recently interviewed industry leaders of a national scale like Charlie Papazian and other leaders in the Brewers Association.

We end the night with a special presentation from the Vancouver Coffee Snob. His unique style of writing has been called 'bold', 'unique' and 'worse than my 5 year old’s best efforts". He vehemently denies that his writing is bold and unique. Expect a coffee fueled energy award show that can only be described as bold and unique.fe

Spookie Movie Night at Strange Fellows Brewing

bonfire-500x500.jpg

Many of our Halloween traditions originated with the ancient Celtic end-of-summer festival Samhain. Fearing the long dark winter ahead, people believed that spirits of the dead would come to visit, causing trouble, damaging crops and perhaps even taking their loved ones back to the other side. They lit bonfires and wore masks to scare evil spirits away, while others welcomed the friendly ghosts of deceased relatives and friends to a feast and setting a place for them at the table. As Christianity spread, old Celtic rites were supplanted by new church-sanctioned festivities like All Souls Day, which incorporated elements of Samhain but with a definite churchy twist. The night before became known as All Hallows Eve.

The ancient Celts believed the autumnal presence of spirits of the dead made it easier to divine prophecies about the future, & so gathered around fires to make offerings to the who gods they believed controlled their world for protection during the long dark winter.

We welcome spirits both living & dead with special offerings & happenings:

Press Release

They travel to hop farms all around the province to collect fresh hops that are still wet and juicy from the harvest. Then they race back to their breweries to brew a batch of beer with those hops. These special fresh hop (or wet hop) beers come out a few weeks later and are available for a short time at the beginning of autumn.

The Victoria Beer Society is proud to announce the return of Fresh to Death: Victoria’s Harvest Celebration of Fresh Hop Beers on Saturday, October 12 from 2pm to 5pm at the Roundhouse at Bayview Place. The event will feature more than 20 fresh hop beers from BC craft breweries, along with some pumpkin beers and Oktoberfest-style lagers, all celebrating the harvest season.

For craft beer connoisseurs, we have created a VIP ticket that includes an exclusive guided tasting of a selection of four fresh hop beers led by Jeff Kendrew, Certified Cicerone, and early access to the event. Jeff will pick four beers that showcase different flavour profiles, and discuss what makes them special and unique. This VIP event begins at 1pm ahead of the start of the regular event at 2pm, and sold out early last year, the first time it was offered.

Vancouver Craft Beer Week Festival at PNE Fairgrounds

Press Release

Vancouver, B.C., May 14, 2019—Celebrating 10 years of craft beer and craft beer culture, the most anticipated craft beer and cider festival in Western Canada returns to the PNE Fairgrounds June 8 and 9, 2019, for a full weekend of live music, food, art, craft beer and cider, games and good times. The 10th annual Vancouver Craft Beer Week Festival (VCBW) caps off a 10-day citywide celebration of craft beer culture and community, running May 31 through June 9. For a complete list of VCBW citywide events including VCBW’s 10th Anniversary Kickoff Party on May 31, visitVancouverCraftBeerWeek.com.

In the spring of 2010, just after the completion of the most successful Winter Olympic Games in history, a few craft beer enthusiasts gathered around a table over a pint and a timely idea: to create a week-long festival to showcase “real beer”—and so, the first Vancouver Craft Beer Week was born. The first VCBW Festival started at a small venue (Heritage Hall on Main Street), hosting about 100 beer aficionados and 15 breweries. Now, a decade later, the city-wide celebration lasts 10 days, with more than 50,000 people taking part in dozens of events across the city—including 15,000 people at the annual VCBW Festival at the historic PNE Fairgrounds—all honouring the province’s favourite commodity.

VCBW 2019 Festival highlights:

• 100 + breweries and cideries pouring more than 300 beers and ciders

• Festivalgoers can create a list of must-try breweries and favourite standout beers in advance through the VCBW website

• An incredible lineup of food trucks and food purveyors including local favourites DownLow Chicken Shack and Big Day BBQ

• BC Ale Trail-er pouring 10 craft breweries from the furthest reaches of B.C.’s Ale Trail

• BC Farm Crafted Cider Association’s cider row featuring a variety of cideries from across the province

• United States Brewers Association has chosen the VCBW as their exclusive Canadian festival partner four years in a row. They are crossing the border to present 20+ breweries and 40+ beers, many of which have never been poured in Canada

• Live interactive painting with the Vancouver Mural Festival

• Go RV’ing presents a camp style lounge outfitted with one of their popular retro trailers

• VIP Section catered and presented by Whole Foods Market

• The BC Lions will have two players onsite hosting a football toss on the Saturday, and two members from the Felions Dance Team on Sunday

• No stress transportation to the festival with dedicated Evo valet parking (attendees must plan an alternative safe ride home)

• Live music lineup includes BBCampfire ShitkickersDead SoftEleven TwelvesFoxy MoronRain Citythe Spillionairesthe TanglersWoodheadMark Woodyard & FriendsVinyl Ritchie, Young Friend, plus the Carnival Band, Hip Hop Tricycle, DJ Sheldon Knight and DJ Hebegebe.

VCBW 2019 Festival

• Saturday, June 8 from 2pm to 7pm, and Sunday, June 9 from 12pm to 5pm at the PNE Fairgrounds, Vancouver. Single day, weekend passes and VIP tickets available now at VancouverCraftBeerWeek.com starting at $39.

VCBW is committed to providing a safe space for all genders, ethnicities, abilities and sexual orientations to enjoy and ensuring that craft beer is promoted and appreciated responsibly by adults. All volunteers, staff, and attendees should enjoy their experience free from harassment, assault or intimidation—any such behaviour will not be tolerated. As with all VCBW events, Serving It Right rules apply—attendees must be 19+ years of age and provide two pieces of ID. VCBW guests are reminded to drink responsibly and plan a safe ride home.

About Vancouver Craft Beer Week

VCBW 2019 kicks off on Friday, May 31, continuing throughout the week with events and programming all over the city, culminating at the historic PNE Fairgrounds on Saturday, June 8, and Sunday, June 9, where more than 100 craft breweries and cideries will be pouring 300+ beers and ciders. Welcome to the inaugural craft beer week on Vancouver’s North Shore! This year, we toast the North Shore’s legendary past in brewing and our bright future with a week of celebrations.

The North Shore has a rich history of craft brewing and was home to Canada’s first ever microbrewery – Horseshoe Bay Brewery in 1982. Now, we play host to five (soon to be seven!) craft breweries leading the way in tasty beers.

Try special casks, attend fun events, and learn more about North Shore beers while collecting stamps on our North Shore Ale Trail Map and posting on your socials with #VNSCBW and to win great prizes!

Canadians may still be waiting for Spring but Steamworks is getting fired up for Summer with the release of their new seasonal Summer Ale.

Crisp and thirst quenching with a distinct citrus aroma, this wheat ale gets a refreshing kick from sweet orange peel, lemon peel and grains of paradise. The balance of bright citrus, fruity hops, and spice make this lively brew perfect for any summer day.

The beer will be hitting pubs and shelves everywhere in early April in a striking matte orange tall can 4-pack and in Steamworks new Summer Mash-Up. However, you can try it today at the Steamworks taproom in Burnaby and brewpub/LRS in Gastown.
