This is the second time we’ve made this beer to raise money for the charity North Helpline, a poverty assistance and food bank service right across the street from our brewery. Their essential work is summed up by their motto:
“We believe that all deserve adequate food, housing, and respect. We assist our neighbors in obtaining basic needs that affirm their human dignity and worth.”
Watershed Pub & Kitchen, North Helpline, and Hellbent Brewing all came together again to create a beer and an event that support our neighborhood--the Northgate and Lake City communities (hence “GateCity IPA”). A host of local bars and restaurants are participating to make the GateCity IPA project come to life. At every location during Seattle Beer Week (May 10th-May 19th), $1 per pint of GateCity IPA will be donated to North Helpline.
Another reason to check out this beer is that last year, at the Washington Beer Awards, GateCity IPA won the gold medal in the American Style IPA category!! It’s brewed with all Washington ingredients, including malt from Skagit Valley Malting and aggressive amounts of Citra, Simcoe, and Mosaic hops from the Yakima Valley. This beer is a pale IPA with gentle bready overtones from the malt and vibrant mango, papaya, citrus and pine aromas from the hops.
ABV 7.3% 62 IBU
